Two quick little commercials made for filler time during a 15 minute live production project for class. Yes, they are made to look like
legitmate copies of Cash4Gold commercials or PSAs, which explains the poor CG work. Just having a little fun with it I guess.
Man oh man am I glad I stumbled across this stuff, and it would be terribly selfish of me not to share this wonderful bit of comedy from across the pond.
(*If you don’t enjoy slow/dry comedy you might as well go elsewhere)
The show is called “Look Around You” and there are plenty to be seen; however here are two that I recommend!
This first video is over ever-elusive word problems, and titled “Maths”
The second is titled, “Computer Games” and is definitely my favorite.
I might add that the videography is stunning as well, incredible shot composition and the editing is well paced to contribute to the humor.
I used to call this effect a “better robot effect” but I think since I made it up I should be able to
call it something with more legitimacy than that.
Check out this video below:
Obviously I used the Fluid Video Effect (FVE) in order to make the sub-par “dancers” (a bunch
of friends moving to music for a non-important video) look somewhat coordinated and okay.
There are many other uses for this and I hope to make use of it soon, but I’ll explain what I’ve
done to the video before you begin to wonder what is so special about it.
I started with the 10 second clip of these guys literally just moving, and duplicated it in a Non-
Linear Editor (NLE and in my case Final Cut Pro).
I then took the duplicated clip and dropped the opacity down to 50%.
Next I reversed the duplicate.
Then I zoomed in pretty far on the timeline and cut at ever 3 frames (1 cut for every 3 frames
with a 10 second clip at 30 fps = 100 cuts).
Then I reversed their order which can be illustrated simply as follows:
(each number represents 3 frames) 123456789 becomes 987654321.
Then I drug those frames back over the top of the original 10 second clip and this video is the
outcome.
Essentially what is happening is that every 3 frames is being played both forward and
backward at the same time, and it creates a stop motion/frame effect while remaing fluid
(thus the name!)
For those of you very visually minded people the timeline ends up looking like this
(still using numbers to represents 3 frames)
123456789
987654321
It’s a fairly simple concept, and I may not be the first to have discovered it, but it can
create some terrific looking video. I hope to soon (as in mid-december) have a very
nice High Definition Sony A1 and will be looking to use the FVE to do more than just
making inadequate dancers look alright.
Let me know if you have any questions and also if you would like screenshots of my
timeline if it’s confusing.
Thanks for reading and good luck! (Send me the link if you use it in your videos, would
love to see it!)
I’ve single-handedly declared this time between Thanksgiving and Christmas “Support your browser month” because I think we should all “come out of the closet” so to speak and display the most used application/program on our computers.
I’m not going to lie, I’m going to be disappointed by those of you still using Internet Explorer, but you should showcase your use nonetheless.
How you decide to promote this is up to you – I’ve currently made my facebook profile picture the picture included in this post and now i’m writing an entire post dedicated to the whole concept of this. So there you have it, I like Firefox. Safari is a close second, but Firefox just does so much for me!
And after looking at this picture of me, I should be reminded to wear sunscreen from now on.
Why on Earth would I completely change tedvid.com and totally ditch all the content and etc?
Well quite frankly, it was junk. The site was duct-taped together and I couldn’t take it anymore. So here is to a fresh start and to a future of blogging that will happen with a frequency that did not exist previously.
So I’ll begin with why you should follow this blog:
1) You want to be the person who says, “hey have you seen this video?” instead of the one who says, “no I haven’t.”
2) You enjoy Vlogs from Tedisaharryson (me).
3) You want to learn how to vlog.
4) You enjoy social media and it’s affects on people.
5) You just simply love technology and the latest trends
6) You like learning alongside someone (in this case, me)
7) You want to find good links
Alright, now I’m not promising anything grand, illustrious, or even great, I just want to showcase what my vlog and blog will be about from now on. The world is on the web, and I’m not about to be behind. Neither should you!
